What You Need To Know – How To Learn Italian For English Travelers
The first thing you need to do is come up with a list of around 100 key words that you think you are going to need to know. Since
Italian is a romance language, you should be able to communicate some basic ideas from English over to Italian, although some things just do not
convert over very well. In any event, write down 100 words that you think you will need to know or want to know before you head over to
Italy. You do not necessarily need to learn Italian for English travelers for all of these words, but you will need to find somewhere that
you can get the Italian translation
Once you have done that get five index cards and write twenty words on each card making sure to go alphabetically. Once you have done
that and made sure that you have room for the translation you can then write out the translation to each of those words. This way you
will have five cards that you can get to quickly to help you with ready to know concepts. This will prove to be very handy while you are
out on the road.
The next thing after that is to learn a couple really useful phrases that you can use in cases of emergencies. Where is the bathroom,
can you show me to a hospital, are you are doctor, are all good things to add to your index cards. Again you should be able to find easy
translation for these common phrases and copy them right onto the cards.
After that I would find some tapes of people speaking in Italian so that you can get used to what it sounds like. It is important
to learn Italian by hearing it so that you are not surprised and overcome when you get over there. The subtle differences between
parts of Italy also can cause problems, but for a novice these should not be too much of an issue.
